Logo design for IWAGPR, the International Workshop on Advanced Ground Penetrating Radar. The biennial event is a workshop and conference focused on cutting-edge advancements in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology. Held in Thessaloniki, Greece during summer 2025, IWAGPR convened international scientists, engineers, and GPR users from diverse disciplines.
The design brief emphasized a visual representation of Ground Penetrating Radar technology and its core principle: analyzing reflected electromagnetic waves to identify objects and variations buried beneath the Earth’s surface. Drawing inspiration from GPR data visualization, the logo graphic takes the form of waves. The varying thickness of the lines reflects the concept of signal strength, typically represented in GPR graphs. Encapsulated within a deep blue circle, reminiscent of our planet, the logo graphic symbolizes GPR’s ability to penetrate the Earth’s subsurface and reveal hidden secrets.
The IWAGPR logo is paired with a contemporary typeface to form the conference’s primary brand expression. The acronym itself, IWAGPR, stands out with the first three letters “International Workshop Advanced” colored blue and the remaining three letters “GPR – Ground Penetrating Radar” colored red for emphasis. The letter A (for Advanced) is shown penetrating the letter G (for Ground), symbolizing the penetration of radar waves into the ground.
For the 2025 event we had to highlight the host city and create a sense of place, a custom illustration of the city skyline was designed and incorporated into promotional materials, including posters and flyers.
